زمینه و هدف: نادیده گرفتن نیروی انسانی در روند طراحی سیستم‌های انسان- ماشین به عنوان عاملی اثرگذار در وقوع حوادث شناخته شده است. این مطالعه با ارائه راهکاری جهت تخمین عملکرد سیسستم تعاملی انسان- ماشین به مهندسین اتوماسیون یاری می‌رساند تا بتوانند با در نظر گرفتن عوامل انسانی، سطح اتوماسیون مناسبی را در طراحی اعمال نمایند.
روش ­کار: مطالعه حاضر تلفیقی از روش کمی جهت برآورد عملکرد کل سیستم و روش کیفی و مقطعی به منظور تخمین خطاهای انسانی می‌‏باشد که در اتاق کنترل نیروگاه فردوسی مشهد در سال ۱۳۹۹ انجام پذیرفته است. عملکرد سیستم تعاملی در سطوح مختلف اتوماسیون توسط تکنیک درخت خطا با اعمال همزمان عملکرد عامل انسانی، عملکرد ماشین و عوامل تأثیرگذار بر این دو، برآورد گردیده است. عملکرد عامل انسانی در این درخت خطا توسط روش CREAM تخمین زده شده است.
یافته‌ها: طراحی تمام ‏اتوماتیک، با میانگین خطای ۰.۰۱۳ دارای کمترین نرخ خطا بوده که معادل ۱/۸ نرخ خطای طرح تمام دستی است. طبق یافته‌های روش CREAM، افراد از متناسب بودن سیستم‌های انسان- ماشین و دستورالعمل‌های مدون برای برخی فعالیت‌ها رضایت چندانی ندارند. بنابراین افزایش نرخ خطای انسانی نسبت به ماشین امری منطقی است.
نتیجه گیری: قابلیت اطمینان بالای ماشین نسبت به عملکرد عامل انسانی باعث گردیده که طرح تمام ‏اتوماتیک دارای کمترین نرخ خطا باشد. اما با توجه به ادبیات موضوع، انتخاب طرح تمام ‏اتوماتیک به عنوان گزینۀ نهایی معایبی به همراه دارد. در این پژوهش با حفظ سطح قابل قبولی از عملکرد سیستم، راهکارهایی جهت رفع این معایب بر اساس شاخص اهمیت پارامترهای کنترلی و ضرورت مشارکت عامل انسانی در فرآیندهای تصمیم‌‏گیری و اجرا ارائه شده است.
