Abstract

Introduction: As workplaces, hospitals are filled with stressors, including environmental and physical stressors (such as noise pollution and poor lighting), human stressors (such as conflicts with colleagues) and organizational stressors (such as heavy workloads and unsuitable work shifts). The inability to cope with these stressors entails physical, psychological and behavioral outcomes for the employees. The present study was conducted to evaluate job stress in nursing personnel and to design a model for assessing the severity of musculoskeletal disorders caused by job stress among nurses.

Materials and Methods: The present cross-sectional analytical study was conducted on 500 nurses working in various teaching hospitals of Hamadan. Data were collected through four questionnaires, including the Job Content Questionnaire, Maslach’s Burnout Inventory, the Visual Analogue Scale and a Demographic Questionnaire. Data were then analyzed in SPSS-16 and LISREL-8.3 using descriptive statistics.

Results: The results of the structural equation modeling showed that job burnout has a mediating effect between the severity of musculoskeletal disorders and job stress. In other words, if factors contributing to job burnout are present, the psychosocial risk factors yielded by the Job Content Questionnaire then contribute to the severity of musculoskeletal disorders.

Conclusion: Given the negative effects of job stress among nurses, health decision-makers are recommended to take measures to reduce stressors such as the physical and psychological demands of the workplace, the lack of support and the lack of job security.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: Factors affecting one's job performance include job stress, job calling and burnout. The purpose of this study was to determine the causal relationship between job stressors, job calling and job burnout among employees of Hamadan University of Medical Sciences.
Methods: This descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study was performed on 378 non-faculty members of Hamadan University of Medical Sciences. Data were collected using Maslach Burnout Inventory, Job Stress Questionnaire (HSE-Q) and Dik's job calling. To investigate the relationship between variables, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method was used in AMOS version 24 software.
Results: The mean age of participants was 38.93 years. The components of job stressors and job calling had a positive and significant correlation with the components of job burnout (P<0.05). The measurement model was acceptable with the collected data. Job stressors indirectly and mediate the dimensions of presence and search of job calling are related to job burnout of medical university employees. The sum of squares of multiple correlations for job burnout variable was 0.56. This finding indicated that occupational stressors and job calling account for 52% of the variance in burnout.
Conclusion: Given the detrimental effects of burnout on employees, it is suggested that authorities reduce stressors such as the psychological and physical needs of the workplace, lack of support, job insecurity, and job calling.

Abstract

Background & Objectives: The nursing profession is basically stressful in nature. In the meantime, the spread of the coronavirus and its rapid spread throughout the country has caused the over-normal influx of patients infected with this virus to hospitals and increased nurses' work stress. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Coronavirus Stress on Job burnout in nurses with the moderating role of psychological capital in Khorramabad Shohadaye Ashayer Hospital, Iran.
Methods: The present study is a descriptive research in the field of studies in terms of applied purpose; data collection was performed using surveys. The statistical population of the study was 230 nurses working in Khorramabad Shohadaye Ashayer Hospital, Iran. Based on Krejcie and Morgan table, a sample size of 140 people were selected by stratified random sampling method. To measure the variables of the research, a questionnaire was used which included three sections of Coronavirus Stress, Job burnout and psychological capital. The reliability of the questionnaire was confirmed using Cronbach's alpha method and its validity was confirmed using convergent validity. For data analysis, structural equation modeling and SPSS and PLS software were used.
Results: The results showed that at the 95% confidence level, Coronavirus Stress has a positive and significant effect on nurses' Job burnout and psychological capital has a moderating role in relation to Coronavirus Stress and Job burnout.
Conclusion: According to the findings, it can be said that Coronavirus Stress has a significant role in increasing nurses' Job burnout, and in the meantime, nurses with stronger psychological capital suffer less burnout than nurses with weaker psychological capital. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the stress of Coronavirus disease by strengthening the psychological capital of nurses, which is a teachable component, and also equipping nurses with the best equipment.

Abstract

Background & Objectives: The pandemic and the crisis caused by the COVID-19 have challenged health care organizations around the world, causing human casualties and health concerns around the world and in Iran. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the mental workload and job burnout of medical employees during the Covid-19 pandemic in Iran.
Method: The present descriptive-analytic research has been conducted on 510 medical and diagnostic staff in the cities of Tehran, Isfahan, and Sanandaj. The mental workload and the job burnout of staff have been evaluated using NASA-TLX software and the job burnout Maslach, respectively. Statistical tests including t-test, ANOVA, and multivariate linear regression were used to analyze the data using a STATA-14 software package.
Results: The mean mental workload of employees associated with patients suffering COVID-19 and those not associated was estimated at 83.7±8.1 and 79.9±9.6 respectively. The mean of job burnout was estimated at 79.6±16.2 and 79.7±16.9, respectively, which were not statistically significant. The results of linear regression showed that being married (coefficient = -6.57, P value=0.003), employment as a Tarh (coefficient = -12.71, P value=0.002), inverse relationship and Work in Isfahan hospitals (coefficient = 21.21, P value<0.001) was directly related to burnout. Women (coefficient = 3.61, P value<0.001), having a relationship with COVID-19 patients (coefficient = 5.9, P value<0.001) had a direct relationship with the amount of mental work.
Conclusion: The mental workload and job burnout in medical employees during the COVID-19 pandemic are high, and warning and the mental workload in employees associated with patients suffering COVID-19 are higher than other employees.

Abstract

Objectives: Employees in the oil and gas industry face various anxieties. The occurrence of corona disease and its rapid spread may increase the anxiety level of these people. The aim of this study is to investigate the mediating role of burnout in the relationship between corona anxiety and work stress.
Methods: The present study is a descriptive survey conducted in 1400. The statistical population of this research is all operational employees of Engineering and Construction Company of Oil Industries; Cochran formula was used to obtain a sample size of 310 people; the main instrument used to collect information is Corona Anxiety Scale Questionnaire, Job Burnout Questionnaire and Questionnaire. In this research, path analysis in SMART PLS software was used to analyze and test the research hypotheses.
Results: Corona anxiety has a significant effect on job burnout with coefficients (T=11.22 = 0.42, R^2) and job stress with coefficients (T=9.24 = 0.48, R^2). The effect of burnout on job stress is also significant with coefficients (T=9.24 = 0.38, R^2). The VAF effect coefficient for the effect of corona anxiety on job stress with the mediating role of burnout is equal to 0.51 and its significance coefficient is 7.52. Therefore, the mediating role of job burnout between the two variables corona anxiety and job stress was confirmed.

Conclusion: Corona anxiety has a direct and indirect negative effect on employees, and the level of corona anxiety in different industries should be reduced to improve employee performance.
