زمینه و هدف: خستگی ذهنی وضعیتی است که با فعالیت طولانی‌مدت شناختی ایجاد می‌شود. خستگی ذهنی به فعالیت بیش از حد مغزی منجر می‌شود که در آن سلول‌های مغزی خسته و مانع بهره‌وری فرد و عملکرد کلی شناختی می‌شود. هدف از این پژوهش ارزیابی خستگی ذهنی دانشجویان با استفاده از شاخص‌های مغزی است.
روش کار: این پژوهش توصیفی ـ تجربی است که روی ۲۰ تا از دانشجویان دانشکده بهداشت با میانگین (انحراف معیار) سنی ۲۴/۴۰ (۳/۷۳) سال در سال ۱۳۹۷ در دانشگاه علوم‌پزشکی اهواز انجام شده است. برای بررسی عملکرد شرکت‌کنندگان از آنها خواسته شد متنی با غلط‌های املایی را بررسی و آن غلط‌ها را تصحیح کنند. این فعالیت در ۵ مرحله ۱۵‌ دقیقه‌ای انجام شد. در همه مراحل الکتروانسفالوگرام (EEG) آنها ثبت و در هر مرحله مقیاس آنالوگ بصری توسط شرکت‌کنندگان تکمیل شد. از نرم‌افزار SPSS نسخه ۲۴،  برای تجزیه‌ و‌ تحلیل داده‌ها استفاده شد.
یافته‌ها: فعالیت امواج آلفا، بتا و تتا در ۱۵ دقیقه اول به‌ترتیب، ۰/۳۰±۰/۸۹، ۰/۳۳±۰/۷۰ و ۰/۳۶±۱/۱۹ و ۱۵ دقیقه آخر به‌ترتیب ۰/۳۴±۰/۶۳، ۰/۲۶±۰/۵۵ و ۰/۳۴±۱/۰۳ بود. کاهش در فعالیت امواج مغز افزایش میزان خستگی ذهنی آنها را نشان می دهد. همچنین افراد با مقیاس آنالوگ بصری بیان داشته‌اند که دچار خستگی ذهنی شده‌اند. مطابق با نتایج ارتباط معنی داری بین EEG و مقیاس آنالوگ بصری دانشجویان دیده نشد.
نتیجه‌گیری: امواج آلفا، بتا و تتا می‌توانند شاخص‌های مناسبی برای ارزیابی خستگی ذهنی باشند. همچنین خستگی ذهنی می‌تواند عاملی باشد که بر دقت و عملکرد افراد تأثیر بگذارد؛ به‌گونه‌ای که به کاهش توجه و بازدهی آنها منجر شود.
